Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

This policy explains what VYBE collects, why, and your choices. VYBE is intended for people aged 16 and older.

Information we collect

  • Account: email address, username, and a hashed password.
  • Age: we check your date of birth at signup to confirm you meet the minimum age; we store only the fact that you confirmed, not the date itself.
  • Spotify (optional): if you connect Spotify, we access your listening data (top artists, genres, and, if you upload it, extended history) to personalize recommendations and your music profile.
  • Location: the city/region you set or follow, used to surface nearby events. We never read your device's precise location in the background, only when you explicitly take one of these actions:
    • Event check-in: when you tap “Check in” at an event, we read your GPS position once to verify you are at the venue, and store that single fix as your attendance record.
    • Festival Map: tapping the locate button or “Pin my location” reads your position to center the map or place a pin; the position itself is not stored unless you save a pin there.
    • Friend location sharing (opt-in): if you turn on sharing at an event, your position is stored and updated while you have the app open, visible ONLY to your accepted friends at that event. Positions far from the venue are rejected by design, stale positions disappear from friends' view after 12 hours, and stored positions are deleted within 48 hours. You can stop sharing at any time with one tap.
  • Your content: events you save, reviews, photos/videos, comments, messages, crew activity, profile details you add, and Festival Map discovery pins. Public pins (with your username) are visible to everyone viewing that event's map; private pins are visible only to you.
  • Usage & device: basic technical data (browser type, and error reports when something breaks) to keep the service working.

How we use it

To provide and personalize the service, recommend events, connect you with friends and crews, send notifications you opt into, keep the service secure, and comply with the law.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with service providers that run VYBE (hosting, email delivery, map imagery, event data from ticketing partners, and music data from Spotify) only to operate the service. Your public profile (username, music identity, and stats) is visible to others by design. Your shared location is visible only to accepted friends at the same event, never publicly and never to strangers.

Your choices

You can disconnect Spotify, edit or delete your content (including your map pins), stop location sharing at any time, control notifications, and request account deletion by contacting us. Connecting Spotify, checking in, pinning discoveries, and sharing your location are all optional.

Data retention & security

We keep your data while your account is active and delete or anonymize it on request. Shared locations are deleted within 48 hours; check-in records are kept as your attendance history and removable on request. We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, though no method is perfectly secure.

Cookies & analytics

We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences, the app doesn't work without them. We use Sentry to collect crash and error reports (technical details about what broke, plus basic device/browser info) so we can fix problems. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell your data. Where the law requires it (for example, in the EU/UK), we ask for your consent before any non-essential processing.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, for example the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You can download a copy of your data or delete your account at any time from Settings → Your data, or contact us using the details below and we'll help.

Children

VYBE is not directed to children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as VYBE evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
